Lilalabs Publishing LLC is an artisanal press that seeks to produce books on yoga philosophy and practice as well as other works in the wisdom traditions. We are exploring the space where art, wisdom and technology intersect. We believe that modern technology is offering us an unprecedented opportunity to create, produce, market and experience works in new and exciting ways. New platforms, such as the iPad, will allow us to produce experimental works that will enable our readers to read these writings from a new perspective and gain fresh insights.

Our first digital book, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali-Illuminations Through Image, Commentary and Chant, will approach the Yoga Sutras in a new way. Since we will be publishing this book as an application on the iPad, we will be able to include a chant of each Sutra as well as offer integration with social media. The reader may read a Sutra in English and Sanskrit, view an image illuminating the Sutra and listen to it being chanted. Ironically, even though modern technology is bringing an audio experience to the Sutras, it marks a return to the oral method of teaching and instruction that was established in the ancient time of the Vedas. We hope to publish this version of the book in Spring, 2012.

In the same spirit of innovation, we view ourselves as producers of books as well as publishers. We will be exploring new paradigms in creating and distributing books that include collaboration, joint venturing, distribution into international markets, and social media marketing. We will be exploring the meaning of the concept of a "book" as it becomes more and more like a "shape shifting" container for content rather than a static object. We may also assist authors who are writing in the wisdom traditions by assisting them in publishing and distributing their books through new platforms, media, markets and economic models. We will not be bound by the historical publishing models and infrastructure. Finally, we will seek to be inspired by and to express the spirit of yoga in all of our activities at Lilalabs Publishing LLC.
